About the Author:

Janice Crowl is a freelance writer and a master gardener with the Hawai‘i Island Master Gardener Association, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Cooperative Extension Service. She has a certificate in Landscape Horticulture from Merritt College in Oakland, California, and a bachelor of arts degree in English from UH Manoa. She has taught garden-based curricula to promote literacy, healthy nutrition, and environmental stewardship through school gardens and community gardens in Hawai‘i and the San Francisco Bay Area. Photography and swimming are her favorite ways to escape having to pull weeds on weekends. She grew up on O‘ahu and the Big Island and resides in Hilo.
