About the CD
Personal Notes in simple terms can be explained as the "insight to Gordon Mark's musical
world". This masterpiece displays his continuous effort in engaging his audience in the history, arrangement, motifs and
chord progressions of every piece he brings to life.
Starting the cd is the song Makalapua which is one of the first songs Gordon Mark learned on the ‘ukulele.
In this track he was greatly captured by the melody regardless of the lyrics thus creating movement on the notes and voices
whenever he plays this piece.
Mona Lisa is a Daniel Ho request which only took Gordon Mark three to five minute practice session to learn the
song and finally "wing it". Another well known mele is Pua Lilia brought to Gordon's consciousness as
sung by Marlene Sai on one of her albums. I Only Have Eyes For You and Days of Wine and Roses
are standards that are considered all time favorites. Feelings, Waika, and For Once In
My Life are other classic hits played on a baritone ‘ukulele. For Once In My Life is one of the
highlights of this cd which was popularized by artists such as Tony Bennett, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder.
Gordon Mark completes this album with songs that exemplify the influence that classical music repertoire has had on modern day
ukulele playing. Chopin’s Nocturne needs no introduction, Polovetsian Dances was from Alexander
Borodin’s opera, Prince Igor, and Stranger in Paradise was from the 1950's musical Kismet. Tchaikovsky and Helen
Desha Beamer are on the same musical wave length. Symphony #5 Opus 64 and Kimo Henderson Hula both open with
nearly similar chord structure types and timing with such exquisite appeal.
Don’t miss out on this new Gordon Mark’s collection unravelling his PERSONAL touch on these classic
NOTES one can listen to over and over.
