Hawaiian
legends Cecilio & Kapono embodied the sound of the '70s
for Hawaii. Since then, the duo has maintained its
popularity, selling more records than any other artists
on the Islands. As a team and in solo careers, Cecilio
Rodriguez and Henry Kapono Kaaihue have released a
combined total of over 20 albums.
Cecilio &
Kapono first got together in 1973. For their first big
performance, the duo opened for Frank Zappa. Eight
months later, they signed with Columbia Records and
subsequently released three albums on the label. In
1998, Cord International & Hana Ola Records released an
anthology of Cecilio & Kapono classics, and Cecilio &
Kapano began a reunion tour. The duo has released a
collaborative total of nine albums.
Cherishing
their Hawaiian home and heritage, Cecilio & Kapono have
remained favorites of Island locals, still holding
records for sell-out and spill-over crowds in local
arenas. They have performed with artists like Cheech &
Chong, America, Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton, and many
more.
