Synopsis:
|
|
As a life-long fan of Elvis Presley, the movie Blue
Hawaii starring Elvis in 1961 had sown the seed for author
Alan Bunch’s
passion for Hawaii and by extension, his passion for plumeria.
His first opportunity to visit the Aloha State came in the late
1980’s and he immediately became enamored with a funny-looking
tree, with flowers growing on perches of tiny limbs whose aroma
was intoxicating. After taking many photographs on that first
visit, he would later become obsessed with plumeria after
discovering through a co-worker, that they would grow in his
home state of Florida.
Subsequent trips to Hawaii and later, to the Caribbean,
Thailand, and to other parts of Florida would start his
collection of plumeria cuttings and what began as a hobby in
planting and propagation blossomed into the largest plumeria
nursery in the continental United States. Through the years, he
has taken thousands of photographs of dozens of varieties of
plumeria. This book is the culmination of two years of work that
identifies 100 varieties of plumeria and describes their growth
habits, as well as information on propagation and care. The
result is the first hardcover coffee-table book dedicated to the
magnificent plumeria flowering tree.

About the Author:
|
|
Author Alan W. Bunch is a self-confessed
plumeria fanatic and is a popular speaker at garden clubs and
conferences locally in Florida, and across the country. Formerly
a comptroller at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, his passion
for the fragrant flower led to his full-time business, The
Exotic Plumeria, a 4.5 acre nursery that sells plants and
cuttings worldwide. In 2005, a new nursery and field of mature
trees in Maui helped to expand The Exotic Plumeria. Regarded as
the ambassador for the plumeria, he often celebrates their
Hawaiian heritage by catering private luaus.
