Paddler, photographer and author, Peter Caldwell has lived in Hawai‘i for over
thirty-five years. As a member of O‘ahu’s Anuenue Canoe Club, he has had a chance to paddle with
and learn from one of the most legendary figures in the sport, Nappy Napoleon, who has paddled in the
Moloka‘i race every year since 1958. With eight channel crossings to his own credit including two
as a steersman, he has an intimate knowledge of the event and the vagaries of the Kaiwi Channel. His
photographs have often appeared in Pacific Paddler magazine as well as other outdoor publications.
