This is first in a series of CDs by “The Steve Jones Collective” assembling various artists to explore different kinds of musical expression. This CD primarily involves the musical voice of pianist Jacob Koller in a classic jazz trio setting. Both Jones and Koller contribute original compositions to this 11 song CD with over 73 minutes of music. Liner notes are written by KIPO Hawaii Public Radio host Don Gordon.
Jacob Koller is a Phoenix Arizona native who now resides alternately between Hawaii, Japan and Arizona. Don Gordon writes...
“This young man has a talent that few possess. You can make a comparison to his playing, phrasing or technique with many great or prominent piano legends and you would be right because that’s how good he is. But to compare him would be unfair simply because Jacob Koller is in his own league and should be mentioned with the legends not compared to them “
Drummer Darryl Pellegrini is a Ohio native who recently moved to Hawaii from New York City. Darryl has toured and performed with numerous jazz greats such as, the Woody Herman Orchestra, Chuck Mangione, and the Village Vanguard Orchestra, to name only a few.
Steve Jones has been in a life long resident of Hawaii with over 30 years of experience as a professional musician and over 12 years as a professional recording engineer. He has performed with renowned artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Bobbie Hutcherson, Tiger Okoshi, Gene Harris, Nestor Tores, Ernie Watts, Bud Shank, Shorty Rogers, Terumasa Hino, Gabe Baltazar, Jimmy Borges, The Betty Loo Taylor Trio and Jake Shimabukuro.
“The Steve Jones Collective Vol. 1” is recorded and produced by Wire & Wood Music, owned and operated by Steve Jones and Bryan Kessler.
A fan and fellow musician Jake Shimabukuro comments, “I’ve been a big fan of Steve’s playing for years!” “He’s an incredible musician as well as a wonderful person.” “His new CD, ‘The Steve Jones Collective,’ is a must for every household in Hawaii!” |
