Seventeen
well-known Hawaii artists pour their hearts and voices into a new
CD called, Hawaii Sings for the Children, a benefit for Friends of
Foster Kids (FOFK), an organization dedicated to improving the
lives of Hawaii’s foster children. Henry Kapono, Na Leo
Pilimehana, Kamehameha Children’s Choir, Tino Ibach, Tony
Conjugacion and Dis Guyz are just a few of the artists who have
generously given their time and talent.
At
any given time there are 2,500 children in Hawaii who have no
place to call home. For a variety of tragic reasons, these
children are removed from their homes and become part of Hawaii’s
foster care system. These kids need help.
Too
often foster kids do not enjoy many of the things most children
receive as a matter of course – such as cosmetic dentistry,
eyeglasses, tutoring, summer camp, hearing aids, and after-school
activities and sports. All of these things take money, and the
state system including the loving foster parents who take in
countless children, cannot afford these “extras.” FOFK is the
volunteer group that steps in to provide these important “extras,”
including an annual Christmas party and all-day summer picnic that
are both eagerly anticipated by foster children and their
families.
Hawaii
Sings for the Children is entirely a volunteer effort put together
by FOFK board members, headed by Kelly Happ. Artists either
allowed free use or wrote original music for the CD. Most with a
children’s theme, this CD is a unique compilation of music and
artistry that is a must for anyone’s collection of homegrown
music. All proceeds go to FOFK, with nearly 100% of the money used
specifically for children’s programs versus administrative
overhead. To learn more about FOFK and Hawaii Sings for the
