“Cruizin’ Wit Da Boyz” is the debut release from the band Ho’okani, featuring ALL original songs written by group members Kaleo Van Titcomb, Ikaika Gonzales and Micah Sadoyama. Produced by former radio music director and Hawaii billboard dj, Richie Aqui, this album will get you singing along from beginning to end with its catchy lyrical hooks and style. This cd packs a punch with the combined talents of Kaleo Van Titcomb’s lead ukulele play backed by the expertise of some of Hawaii’s music industry masters, including musician Roy Hamada, guitarist Anela Kahiamoe and music engineer Charlie Lukela.
The band Ho’okani was formed by Kaleo Van Titcomb, a 1999 graduate of Kamehameha Schools, while attending Pacific University. He formed the group with college classmate Ikaika Gonzales (St. Louis ‘99) and long time friend Micah Sadoyama (Iolani ’98). Homesick for Hawaii, the guys wrote all the original songs while away. Ho’okani began with jam sessions on campus and started to build a following among the Hawaii students at the school. Soon the enthusiasm spread to college locals. It was on a school break that Kaleo returned home to play his “dorm room tapes” of Ho’okani’s music and caught the ear of his brother Richie Aqui. Aqui decided to produce the project on cd, to make the music available to all listeners.
The importance of party life, girls, party life and…girls is captured in the title track “Cruizin’ Wit Da Boyz”. The boys get together for some good time pa’ina with their friends, and… the girls (“da chicks oh cuz that’s key.”)
“Everything’s Alright” and “Ho’okani Tonight” will get you geared up for the weekend celebration! And what’s an Aloha Friday party without singing, dancing and (“inu ‘til the morning light?“) “Let’s Get Down” answers that ‘no brainer’ while high energy track “Good Time” will get you “runnin’, jumpin’ shoutin’ and skankin’.”
On the more serious side, being a young local boy in love has its special moments and “Be Your Man,” with its pulsating R&B style combined with Ho’okani’s smooth vocal harmonies is destined to become one of this year’s best love ballads.
Falling in love and wanting to get noticed by that someone special is portrayed in “You Don’t Know” and “Everytime You Look at Me” combined with beautiful ukulele solos.
“What’s the Story?” picks up the pace with its fun, flirtacious sound and “Find Me” contains a driving, commanding ukulele hook that’ll make you turn up the volume.
Ho’okani’s debut release “Cruizin’ Wit Da Boyz” embraces all local music formats with a touch of cool island rhythms combined with local contemporary style and targets Hawaii’s young music masses looking for a good time party and a little bit of local boy romance. |
