Aloha Music International, a division of Booklines Hawaii, is proud to be the new distributor of “Slack Key Praise,” featuring Leon Siu and David “Kawika” Kahiapo from Aloha Ke Akua Ministries. Leon and David say: “These traditional and contemporary gospel songs were chosen for their familiarity and for the significant impact they have had on Hawaii and in our own lives. Some are old, and some are new. These songs are rendered as instrumental pieces. But, even without the profound Hawaiian or English lyrics, they have the power to soothe, comfort, reassure and heal.” About the Artists:
Leon Siu is one half of the renown duo Leon & Malia. He has been playing music since he was a child growing up on the island of Hawaii. He is a composer, musician, author, visual artist and producer who juggles work simultaneously among various disciplines and circumstances. His music experience spans the spectrum from symphonic rock, to Hawaiian, to kid’s songs. His music is heard around the world. Leon is a founder and director of Aloha Ke Akua and is also active in several other ministries. David “Kawika” Kahiapo is an accomplished slack-key artist, composer and performer. Over the years, he has played lead guitar and sang back-up for many of the top peformers in Hawaii. Songs from David’s first solo album “Alana” rose to the top of the Hawaiian radio charts. Several songs have already become “standards” among Hawaii’s musicians and hula halau. David now performs primarily as a soloist but also plays with Jesse Rivera, Na Leo Pilimehana and Native Hawaiian Band.
