Roy Sakuma proudly teams up with two of his former students, Daniel Ho and David Ho, to present "Canoe Club", a vocal-instrumental band that showcases the ukulele in a pop/island musical setting.
Daniel Ho, the featured composer, and David Ho, on ukulele and keyboards, are childhood friends born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both found their love of music as students at Roy Sakuma's Ukulele Studios. Daniel and David moved to Los Angeles in 1986 to pursue their dreams of working in the music industry. Daniel's work as a composer and producer brought him two #1 albums on the national airplay charts, and two top ten albums on Billboard. David found his calling as a recording engineer, studio designer, and computer consultant.
David serenades you with his beautiful interpretations of "Lia, "Kumu Mele", and "Haiku", a haunting slack-key ukulele solo. His mastery of the ukulele becomes apparent on the technically demanding tunes "Take It Out" and "Fast Forward", a composition written by Roy Sakuma. "Pineapple Mango" and Menehune March" show us the lighter side of Canoe Club with their funky, playful grooves.
Bridgette Bryant, Canoe Club's lead vocalist, has performed and recorded with the likes of Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, and James Ingram. her silky, soulful voice is certainly a highlight of this album. Dean Taba, Honolulu-born bassist, is a studio musician and tours with David Benoit when he's not laying down grooves for Canoe Club.
It seems only right after all these years that Roy, Daniel, and David have come together with a fresh new sound. Discover this unique album with its eclectic collection of musical styles tied together by a common thread - the ukulele - used in ways never before imagined!
