About the CD

 Henry Kapono's new CD, "The Wild Hawaiian", will be released this June. This highly anticipated CD release is Henry's first Hawaiian CD ~ with a twist ~ A Wild Hawaiian twist! It's an "alter-native" approach to Hawaiian music, well crafted with an attitude of pride, respect and power. As Henry says, "It's a step forward for me and is my interpretation of how I see, feel, hear and live my Hawaiian culture. This creation has been the greatest experience of my career and I hope everybody's experience will be as exciting as mine has been".

The Wild Hawaiian features some of Hawaii's timeless classics like Na‘Alii, Hi‘ilawe & Ke Aloha O Ka Haku ~ The Queen's Prayer. The songs Henry chose are about Respect, about Kings & Queens, about Music, about Love, War & Victory. Henry also wrote, for the first time ever, new songs in Hawaiian about his love for his Family, the Ocean, his Hawaiian culture and his Home in the Islands. The Wild Hawaiian also features Henry (recently self taught) on the electric guitar. In additon, Henry showcases his graphic design abilities throughout the CD Song Book.

The Wild Hawaiian is about a sense of place, it is about Henry. "The Wild Hawaiian is not a physical being, but more a state of being and a fun place to be" says Henry. "Where did it come from? I always say, "somewhere beyond myself", in that great land of plenty that inspires us all to be the creative forces that we are all capable of being. It's true. I have always been and am known for being a contemporary singer/songwriter living the American dream and living in Hawai‘i. It doesn't get better than this. It's been a great time and I love it. A few years ago I started on a new musical journey, dancing on a new path. I didn't know where it would take me, but the more I listened and felt it, the more excited I got and the more I learned about myself as a Hawaiian man and as a human being. I think The Wild Hawaiian is pretty amazing! It's Hawaiian music, but not traditional Hawaiian music, it's Wild Hawaiian music!".

Henry Kapono has had a Bohemic musical career and The Wild Hawaiian is proof that he's not giving into changing that. The Wild Hawaiian doesn't only break the rules, it makes them! It's not cutting edge, it is the edge. It is untraditional, unorthodox and unrelenting. Henry's new sound is raw, alive, innovative, powerful and contagious and it has that "Henry Feel Good Vibe". You wouldn't find anything like this anywhere else! The intention, as Henry says, "is to cause people to dance, sing and discover a proud culture".

The Wild Hawaiian is ground breaking stuff, so don't expect to hear it anywhere else, including Henry's past discography…It's the beginning of something new, a new Hawaiian sound, a Wild Hawaiian sound! The Wild Hawaiian CD will be released in June and followed by a series of concerts starting in Hawaii in July.
