About the CD

The Mighty J band formed in 2006 as a collaborative musical effort between three women who are already well established in Hawai‘i’s music industry . It’s members include Mailani Makainai (Keahiwai), Tiki Suan (Milo Shade) and Jenn "JRoQ" Wright (Kanalo and Simple Souls). These ladies are passionate about their music and because of their different backgrounds, create a sound that is unique enough to be called "World Music," but also rooted in the soul of Hawai‘i. Their use of different types of instruments and infusion of different genre knows no boundaries.

The three women are not abandoning their original bands Keahiwai, Milo Shade, Kanalo and Simple Souls but are taking the opportunity to draw from their different styles to create a new and fresh sound for Island music. All but one of the tracks and the only track in Hawaiian, "Ke Ala Ka Jeep" by Eddie Kamae, are original compositions written by the members of Mighty J.

Being songwriters/storytellers the listener is treated to snap shots of Mighty J’s lives in a visual, deep and very personal way. Whether the message be I’m moving on because things aren’t working out as in "Baby I’m Gone" or longing for a love that can’t be expressed as in "Can’t Be With You," it’s clear that these ladies speak from their unique perspectives.

The first single and video will be "Girl’s Night Out". The lyric tells you that the girls are out to give you a great show and poses the question why are you hating on me? With its infectious beat and message, this track will definitely be a crowd pleaser. The reggaeton beat of "We Don’t Need To Be Friends" is a nice addition to the album texture and with it’s flirtacious message is sure to entice those of us looking for relationship to consider this approach of getting to know them. The less rythmic tracks are just as poignant and delivered with the intimacy that pulls you into thinking about what needs to be said "Before I Let You Go" or the yearning about wanting to give yourself to someone but can’t in "All of Me". The latin sensibility of the production gives the album a fresh feel and sound. This project is definitely one you’ll want in your music collection. The Mighty J CD is created under a new record label, Daddy Records. The new CD was produced and engineered by Dr. Trey. Visit them online at www.mightyjmusic.com.
