"Home To Me" is the personal tale of Sean’s battle back from the brink of death, and the power and
energy he draws from the life changing experience can be felt in the passion of his performances and the integrity of his songwriting.
Using music as his canvas, and the ‘Ukulele to channel the spirit of his Hawaiian ancestors, Sean Tiwanak has created a musical
masterpiece that is sure to delight audiences everywhere.
This album is no random collection of songs. From the opening track to the finale, "Home To Me" takes the listener on
a journey through life from strife and struggle, to joy and redemption. The title track "Home To Me" is a provocative
reflection of Sean’s experience living on the Mainland and returning home to his family and friends after 11 years away. Sean masterfully
blends rhythms and styles on this track to produce one of the most original and interesting musical compositions in local music in recent history.
There is no doubt something for everyone on this CD. From the stirring strains of "Lokelani", inspired
by Sean’s yearning for Hawai‘i during his years in Oregon, and "Aloha Uhane", the uplifting song
inspired by ancient Hawaiian values of Ho‘o Ponopono Ke Ala and a song of healing for Hawai‘i, to the fun and infectious
"Lori Baby", and Sean’s Hawaiian language original love song "A Ke Kai".
Covers of "Everytime You Go Away" (the Paul Young megahit), "Have A Heart"
(the Bonnie Raitt Clasic), "The Sopranos" theme song "Woke Up This Morning" and a medley
of "Hula Love/The Tide is High" (hits by Buddy Knox and Blondie, respectively) are given a fresh
breath of life.
As a testimony to Sean’s miraculous recovery and transformation, the final track "Angel" stands alone a
message of hope for all who have faced struggle or adversity. This moving track leaves the audience emotionally uplifted with its honest lyrics
and inspired melody. This song is dedicated to the life and memory of the blessed Mother Marianne Cope and all those who give their lives to
uplift the lives of others. Mother Marianne comforted the lepers on the island of Moloka‘i for nearly 33 years until her death in 1918.
Her life and service on the leper colony of Kalaupapa inspired Sean deeply in his own life and his recovery.
To know the man is to appreciate his music. "Home To Me" is a treat for the ears and nourishment for the soul. With so much to appreciate,
you almost forget that the entire album was recorded with the ‘Ukulele as the primary instrument: Another maverick move that helps to
broaden the limits of the ‘Ukulele in the modern world. Sean Tiwanak is a talent to be reckoned with, and the future has never looked
brighter for this gifted artist and rising star.
