Hawaiian Sea Life Origami Product Description:
These sharks, whales, and fishes may be made of paper, but they look realistic and are fun to play with! In Hawaiian Sea Life Origami: A Beginner’s Step-by-Step Guide, Laurie Ide and her fifth-grade daughter Karley teach you how to make dolphins, a monk seal, turtles, fishes, lobsters and more – thirty six marine animals in all.
Developed by Karley and written up by mom, these simple and cute designs are perfect for all ages. What’s more, each animal can be found in Hawaiian waters, and each is accompanied by its Hawaiian name. Each design is accompanied by easy-to-follow instructions and color photographs that will have you folding up an entire paper ocean in no time.
Laurie Ide has been making and selling lei since she was fourteen years old. At twenty-two, she opened her own floral business, which she operated for thirteen years. Her BAin business administration and multiple professional certifications enable her to prosper at two of her lifelong loves: flower arranging and lei making. She is the author of several books for children and popular howto books on lei making.
Karley Ide, Laurie Ide’s daughter, is the designer of the animals in this book. Her origami sea creatures, surprisingly, began with her love of dinosaurs. At the age of six, she received a book about origami dinosaurs that presented a daunting challenge since many of the designs required over thirty steps and Karley couldn’t complete them. Rather than giving up, she invented her own folds to complete the dinosaurs. Four years later and without access to any source material other than the difficult dinosaur book, she presented her mother with fourteen original origami sea creatures.
