Review: Between Sky and Sea - A Family's Struggle - 603 words "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way", this is the opening line from Leo Tolstoy's epic novel Anna Karenina. Tolstoy's resonant words, penned in the late 19th century about elite Russian society, uncannily ring out as clear as a bell today while reading how the Texeira ʻohana (family) steadily carve out their own niche of unhappiness in the small town of Kahaluʻu, Hawaiʻi. Far from the "paved paradise" of Waikīkī, Kahaluʻu is, for the moment, precariously harboured from the rapacious, steely grip of development.
